Though today's recipes come from a 1950s booklet published by Corby's whiskey, toddies have been around for more than 300 years. According to Wikipedia, toddies were once thought to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu.
Cold Toddy
1/2 tsp. sugar
Dash of water
JIgger of water
1 1/2 oz. whiskey
Dissolve sugar in dash of water in bottom of chilled Old Fashioned glass. Partially fill with ice cubes. Pour over whiskey, add jigger of water and stir gently. Top off with a twist of lemon peel.
Hot Toddy
1 lump sugar
Boiling water
1 1/2 oz. whiskey
Put lump of sugar into hot Old Fashioned glass and fill with two-thirds of boiling water. Add Whiskey. Stir and top with twist of lemon peel. A little nutmeg may be grated on top if desired.
