Vintage advertising -- found in my mother's basement, flea markets and various corners of the Internet -- dusted off and displayed for your viewing pleasure.
When I was a kid, I had wanted my mother and me to have a matching outfit. My mother was aghast.
Today, I'm grateful to her and her impeccable taste for protecting me from myself. She innately understood that grown women shouldn't be dressing like children.
Now that she's older, she counts on me to advise her, the operating question being, "Is this an old lady outfit?"
It's a safe bet this ad ran in Jet and/or Ebony magazine. Unfortunately, in the 1960s, one almost never saw ads that focused on African-Americans in mainstream magazines.
