Apple bought all of the advertising space in November/December special election issue of Newsweek in 1984, and devoted it all to Macintosh.

Advertising first started many years ago when people used a thick paper-like material called papyrus for sales messages and wall posters. this practice can be traced back from Egypt, Japan, Ancient Greece and Rome. This is indeed an indication that advertising plays a huge part in the growth of a business, more so effective advertising. That's what separated Steve Jobs from his competitors.
