Vintage Ad: Neiman Marcus, 1990
I'd expect to see that headline in 1950, not 1990... "If the little woman is bored, just get her a new frock and she'll be right as rain."

The fact that Needless Markup is a Dallas-based chain is part of it. I lived in the DFW area from about 1975-2000 and the good-ol'-boy attitude in business was alive and well. It has gotten better over the years, but certainly less progressive than chains in other areas like NY. I think this ad reflects that. Just a thought.
