Crocs are the extraordinarily comfortable (so I'm told) rubbery clogs that make the feet of people of all ages look big and clumsy.
I guess you can tell where I stand on the issue of the Crocs aesthetic.
Nonetheless, I do admire Crocs' marketing. For one thing, the company is wisely prolonging the life of this fashion trend by creating line extensions such as the licensed College Team Crocs, which are Crocs that carry college sports team logos.
The marketing is working. According to ShoppingBlog.com, Crocs' revenue was up 255% for the first half of 2006; the shoes are sold in 40 countries; in fact, one in six Israelis own a pair of Crocs. Very impressive for a brand that was started just four years ago.
Of course, the brand does have its detractors -- a particularly hysterical example of which is the blog, I Hate Crocs.
