Ambient/guerrilla campaign with results that look like contemporary art

Here's how this campaign worked:

To put beach pollution into perspective, trash was collected from various beaches, packaged it to look like seafood and displayed it at local farmers' markets. This is the print extension for those who couldn't actually make it to the market."

Turn junk mail into mulch

Dscf0163 Get Rich Slowly  has posted some guidelines for turning junk mail into garden mulch. I think I may try this in my flower beds.

George W for Greenpeace

Very funny ads. But they're preaching to the converted and turning off Republicans, the very people who need convincing that climate change is real.

Great ads (but with kind of a preachy tag line)

I think these ads would have been better without any tag line at all.

Seven in ten Americans think when companies label a product 'green' it's just a marketing tactic

According to a study, Americans pretty much think that when companies advertise their products' environmentally-friendly aspects, it's just a lot of hooey.

One company that seems to be genuinely committed to protecting the environment is Dell. CEO Michael Dell recently told the Wall Street Journal that his company is planning to go carbon neutral by 2008. According to Dell, carbon neutral means a company is matching its carbon emissions with green technological projects or purchasing an "offsetting" amount of emissions from other sources.

Nothing grabs attention like naked people. But does it do any good?

Held this weekend was the fourth annual World Naked Bike Ride, a guerilla marketing event meant to bring attention to the environmental damage caused by society's dependence on automobiles and to promote the many benefits of bicycling. The event was 'celebrated' in more than 60 cities, including London.

To be sure events like this one encourage dialog. But I don't think anyone who saw these bike riders was talking about the environment.

Kudos to Staples for its recycling efforts.

Beginning this week, Staples will accept used computers and monitors for recycling. To take advantage of the service, drop off your unwanted computer and/or monitor at any Staples retail location in the U.S. The charge, which covers handling and recycling costs, is $10 per unit.

Staples will also accept peripherals such as keyboards, mice and speakers for free.

The Staples located a few miles from my house has for some time now been accepting printer ink cartridges for recycling. In addition to being a free service, I get a coupon toward my next purchase of ink cartridges for every printer cartridge I bring in.
