Estee Lauder wants to make over your online image

Starting October 16, Estee Lauder will be sponsoring free makeovers and photo shoots at department store cosmetic counters all over the U.S. The cosmetics brand suggests the photos can be used for participants' online profile photos.

This Olay ad featuring the preternaturally unlined face of 60-year-old Twiggy has so incensed some members of Britain's Parliament that they're proposing mandatory disclosure of digital alterations in ads aimed at adults and an all-out ban on photoshopping in ads aimed at children.

Crabtree & Evelyn is in trouble

I'm a sucker for any brand with a hyphenated British name. Throw in some floral scents and chintz, and suddenly I'm convinced that I'm just one purchase away from living a tranquil and romantic existance.

So I've always loved Crabtree & Evelyn. It never changed the tempo of my life but it did make me smell nice and that was always good enough for me.

   

Today, I was crushed to read that Crabtree & Evelyn had filed Chapter 11.

The retail chain is expected to see an almost 25% drop in sales this year compared to 2008.

Hopefully, they can restructure and weather this economy.
