If you thought yesterday's post was weird . . .

Apparently, geographically-relevant breakfast cereal is hardly the weirdest thing to be sold on the Internet. Web Upon has posted a list of The 10 Most Eccentric Items Ever Auctioned Online, including the rights to name Melissa Heuschkel's baby. Meet GoldenPalace.com.

Branding won't help you if your service doesn't live up to the hype.

My brother Michael took me to a Bruins game at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston last night. Before the game, Michael went looking for an ATM. All the ATMs he found in the TD Banknorth Garden were out of service except for one.

TD Banknorth pays $6 million a year* for the corporate naming rights to the Boston sports venue, presumably to promote the bank and its financial services, yet it neglects to keep the arena's ATMs in good working order. Which do you think will leave a bigger impression on the Garden's patrons?

By the way, the Bruins shut out the Oilers, 3 - 0.

Corporate Naming Rights for Sale at Detroit Airport

Corporate_naming_rights_2 This week, the Detroit Free Press reported that Detroit's Metro Airport is considering selling corporate naming rights to a new terminal under construction.

And why wouldn't it so do when last year the airport made $905 million (!!!) selling advertising space in its current terminals?
