According to the New York Times, online purchases of skirts, shoes and suits surpassed online purchases of PCs, printers and word-processing programs last year, $18.3 billion to $17.2 billion.
Many people are surprised that consumers -- who often complain about the difficulty of finding the right fashions -- would prefer to buy clothes online, without benefit of sales help and fitting rooms.
I'm not surprised. Until bricks and mortar retailers start letting us drink wine and go barefoot while shopping in their stores, expect more fashion sales to migrate to the web.
