The Tip Top Tap neon sign is a bit of false advertising. (Click the image above to enlarge it.) The bar is now called the Tap Two and is no longer on the top floor but on the second floor of the Allerton Hotel in Chicago.
Ad from the Big Ass Fans. It appeard in Sunday's New York Times Magazine.
According to Wikipedia:
Big Ass Fans was founded in 1999 as the HVLS Fan Co. by owner J. Carey Smith. The company's name was changed to the Big Ass Fan Company in 2002. Due to the name change, Lexington's Blue Grass Airport declined advertising from the company, and residents staged protests of a 10-ft. mural depicting the name and company mascot, "Fanny," on the side of the company's building.
