It's a beautiful piece of advertising that celebrates diversity, peace and commonality among the many people of the United States.
And that pissed off a lot of assholes.
From a New Times article by Stuart Elliott:
In attacking the Coca-Cola commercial, some commenters appropriated a hashtag that Coca-Cola used to designate its spot, #AmericaIsBeautiful, while others used the hashtag #BoycottCoke or coined hashtags that referred to Coke with obscenities. “This ad makes me NEVER want to drink Coke again,” said a participant in the Ace Metrix Super Bowl ad report.
Also unhappy was Allen West, a former Tea Party congressman, who psoted on his blog comments that included this: “If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing ‘America the Beautiful’ in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come — doggone we are on the road to perdition. This was a truly disturbing commercial for me, what say you?”
Todd Starnes, a Fox News commentator, posted on his Twitter feed remarks like “Coca-Cola is the official soft drink of illegals crossing the border” and “Couldn’t make out that song they were singing. I only speak English.” And Glenn Beck, on his radio show Monday, denounced the commercial by rewriting a vintage brand slogan: “‘Hey, have a Coke and we’ll divide you.’”
The complainers sound like a bunch of ignoramuses willfully missing the point.
