Today begins the weekend celebration known as Kool-Aid Days in Hastings, Nebraska. Hastings is where powdered fruit drink was first made by Edwin Perkins, an entrepreneur/inventor.

Because of the high cost and breakage issues associated with shipping bottles, Perkins developed a way to remove the liquid from his fruit drinks, leaving just the powder. The rest is history. Read more about it at the Hastings Museum.
